My House Guest

Our front porch is loaded with a multitude of potted plants of all kinds. The other morning, we had our front door open (with the full-glass storm door closed) and I kept hearing all kinds of chatter out there. When I investigated, I saw a pair of Carolina wrens hopping from pot to pot. My wife loves birds, but not up-close, so I checked out the possible pots for a nest and found one two feet from the door! I learned that male wrens build 3-4 nests and the female chooses the one she likes best. It must have taken a few days to go through that process because this weekend when I checked, momma wren came flying out. I moved the pot down the porch about 10 feet to get them away from the door and discovered 3 eggs deep inside the tunnel of a nest. It’s now right outside a window, so I hope to get some photos of them as they come and go. Here’s a quick sketch I did from a photo I found on Google. I wasn’t sure if they are house wrens or Carolina wrens until I heard their song. Click the button below to hear a Carolina wren song - beautiful!

I really liked the sketch! I promptly opened a “Bird Pics” folder and saved a copy of the Carolina Wren. I located your site thru the Day By Day cartoon site. I’m gonna build a high tech titanium boid. I’ll let you know how it comes out.
Maybe you’ve seen this poem before…
