The Question of Color

When I started coming up with the style for The Boids, I wanted to stay with black and white artwork. Not only is it quick, I felt I could improve my cartooning skills by forcing myself to simplify the characters as much as possible. Well, after the first half-dozen or so strips, I realized that the wonderful world of birds needs to be in color. So many birds have similar body shapes but with wildly different markings and colors that I felt something was missing. I want to show a wide variety of species in Boids and color will help me do nature justice! I know several folks have responded that they liked the black and white approach better - I’ll just have to win you over with good compositions and storytelling! Besides, Steve will do his best to cover up my art with words, so you won’t see THAT much color anyway…
