#9 - A Bird’s Tail
And we’re back! Welcome to the first update of The Boids. We know it won’t be quite as fun as the first time when you had eight comics to gaze upon, but this is the nature of the beast. So enjoy numba 9, in color! Larry has been bugging me to use those crayons the nice people at the home gave him, so there you go. Larry is going to go back and color all of the existing strips as he gets time.(Actually we both felt that presenting colorful birds in black and white were doing them, and you, excellent reader, a disservice. Also we were considering our costs should we ever have the comics printed up in paper form, but Larry found some affordable options that we feel like we can explore should that need for printing ever arise. Please let us know if, and when, you feel any arising needs.)

Can i just ask what breed of bird Harmon and Nelson are? This is not to say that they dont look like thier species its just i aint very good with bird types!
Does anyone else feel privellegd to be here at the start of it? i joined all my other web comics well into thier runs (and of course then read every back issue) but with this i’m here right at the START wow!

Damn nice work, Larry + Steve! The colour is magnificent - really brings out the depth of the artwork. Beautiful.

I like the way you mixed the color in. No too plain, not too bright. Keep up the good work.
I agree with you Sam. Even though I wasn’t here for all the blogs about the pre-comic stuff it is nice to start a web comic at the beginning and not at the middle.

Hey guys, thanks for hanging in. Harmon and Nelson are House Sparrows. As for the Brit flock, it sounds like you guys are the first official Boid Fan Flock - The UK Pied Wagtails! When we have the convention you are now obligated to come across the Pond and set up a party room in the hotel.

IF(comic) = (coloured)

Guess I’m brit fan no. four. Go Wagtails!
Also, yeah, it’s really awesom to be here from the start.

Wow!
This is what it must have felt like to go to the movies and watch a color movie for the first time.
It’s great!!! Keep it up.

The color is great! good choice. Not to say the black/white looked bad, but the color (notice I dont spell it with a U, USA! USA!) makes it look great.

Hey, really like the colored comic! Gives it more personality I think. Great job!

Lol i wasnt suggesting that everyone in the flock should be a Pied Wagtail, I was just observing what I would be. The Brit Boid flock accepts all birds. Providing the birds of prey are wiling to see us as “friends not food!”
P.s Aelix: Its ok if you want to drop the u from Colour, we Brits know its just part of the rebellious phase you Americans are going through ;-).
We invented the language, we get to decide on the spelling! lol
Actually i read somewhere that American Spellings are closer to the original English of the Pilgrim Fathers than our own, an interesting case of divesity by sheer distance.
well interesting to me as a teacher anyway……

Hi Steve, Larry,
The strip looks great. I’ve followed (but not in a ’stalking’ way) both of your work from Toyzville, Every Nine Minutes and the excellent TSOLAR.
Am now bookmarking Boids as well.
Looking forward to the next one.
Neil (also a UK Pied Wagtail and previous winner of one of Larry’s drawings of Toyzville Tom - ta Larry)

Hey!
I’m a big fan of Turn Signals and really think your comics are pretty original and (occasionally) funny. Kidding. But I think this comic actually benefits from a black and white format. In this instance, I find the color distracting and since the drawings are so stylized, there is no need for color. Comedy is about efficiency; “brevity is the essence of wit” and all that. I would refrain from adding color unless it absolutely was necessary for the strip to convey its story and its humor. I know that’s long and maybe I’m over thinking this too much, but those are my two cents…

Great comic. Like others, found my way here through WallyAndOsborne.
You’ve gained another bookmark.

Great comic. Always been a fanatic reader of TSOALR, and got here through that link. Colour (I personally think it should be spelled that way, and i’m from MI) looks great, but it would look exellent in black and white or in colour.
On what I would be if I was a bird… probably a Aquila chrysaetos (golden eagle). I am, in personality, a preadator.

Hey adam, I read what you wrote, but my view is that it looks better in color. Its still not that complicated anyway, and it adds a new dimension to the comic, and that is art. This comic is art, just as is any classical piece, and from an art view it looks much more appeling. The black and white look OK, but it had no depth.

first, leave the origenals in black+white, and also i love this one!
