I can only speak for myself
January 30th, 2007when i tell you that we’re putting something special together.
The idea:
In the midst of all of our other web comics Larry came up with this awesome idea for another comic. There are these scientists, see, who are studying birds and the way they interact in large flocks. They construct a flock of their own mechanical birds, based on one prototype left over from another experiment. During their research Boid (Flock Unit 2A-6) becomes separated from his mechanical flock. Boid’s programming drives him to seek out a new flock in the nearby city.
My family has always interacted with birds. We’ve fed, studied, and photographed them. We’ve put out nestboxes, and, on occasion, put babies back in their nests. I like birds and I’m really jazzed about writing them in comic form. Almost as jazzed as Larry is to be drawing them. We hope you like the Boids…

I was complaining to Larry, and he said to post it to the blog. So here it goes. The scenario you describe sounds so perfect for one complete STORY rather than a strip. It’s a bit like a classic “fish out of water” story. I’m sure a strip would be enjoyable and funny, but I’m afraid the idea you described above will just be a setup that gets you to the gags. That, I think, would be a mistake. You have a great story idea. Write a story. Pleeeaaase!

Cory: What I hope to do IS a story, told in strip form. My favorite comics follow a similar format. Sure the jokes are not always LOL funny, but they exist. Not to say there won’t be some cliff-hangers and poignent moments either. But these characters will grow and change as time goes on, so I hope that the story being told behind the jokes is the one people come back for. This is my challenge.
